Dead Circuits, Ground Floor

RACCOONS STUDIO presents Dead Circuits, Ground Floor, a site-specific audiovisual installation that responds to VLAK's street-facing threshold space. The work is built from discarded electronic devices and household fragments collected from the surrounding neighborhood. Many of the devices were manufactured in China or Thailand and shipped to Europe. After use, much of this e-waste passes through Rotterdam as an export port on its way back to Asia. Dead Circuits, Ground Floor interrupts this trajectory by disassembling and filming the objects from the street. Through microscope imaging, their internal components are magnified, monitored, and held in view. This brief extension of visibility does not redeem the objects, but delays their disappearance and quietly questions the afterlife of things meant to be shipped away.
