My dental crowns fell off twice while living in Rotterdam. Maybe that's why I dreamt of losing teeth several times last year. Once, it was a close-up shot like a polished advertisement; another night, it was like a horror movie full of blood. The dream returned when I had to find a new apartment recently.
In Thai culture, a dream of a tooth falling out could foretell the death of a relative, whereas in Dutch culture, it reflects social embarrassment. To me, it is a symbol of losing control.
This installation is the first look at my ongoing research, where I reconstruct the haze of a fever dream. By layering the recorded dreams of myself and fellow migrants with footage of transient spaces and found objects in Berlin, I hope to capture the restless dream state in which the most ordinary things suddenly feel alien and uncertain.
